Butik
The Scandinavian Cultural Center Butik offers quality Scandinavian items
for gifts and the home to remind people of their heritage. Our butik
is organized as a service for the community to be able to purchase Scandinavian
cultural items.
Cultural Items
The Butik is open during some events throughout the
year such as the Lucia and Midsummer's festivals, as well as at evening
programs. It can be opened by appointment when there is need.
Books
Some of the books we offer are coffee table books,
books containing information specific to the culture and history of
Scandinavian countries, as well as biographies and historical novels.
We also have a variety of children's books available, including those
written by the world-renowned Astrid Lindgren, "Flicka, Ricka,
and Dicka," and many others. We also stock a few puzzles
of Scandinavian countries which children and adults alike may enjoy.
Videos
We stock many documentaries, and entertainment videos
in our Butik. One popular item are the videos put out by the Lindesnes
Accordion Band from Norway. They combine funny, time-honored songs
with beautiful, traditional music. This group performed in Santa Cruz
in September 2004 and was extremely well-received.
Decorative Items
We have many decorative items, including Vikings and
gnomes, Santa Lucia dolls and trolls, as well as candle holders made
of wood, metal or glass.
Textiles
Various sizes of the Ekelund line can be found in
the butik with a variety of beautiful floral designs. We carry traditional
designs as well as the more contemporary. We carry also beautiful
tablecloths and runners.
Seasonal Items
Our Christmas and Midsummer items are especially popular.
More
We have many items for the kitchen: aprons from each
country, serving bowls, traditional wooden butter knives, and specialty
bowls such as herring or lingonberry bowls. We have a variety
of dolls representing each Scandinavian country in beautiful costume,
and other toys and cultural items.
