Scandinavian Folk Dance Classes
Our folk dance classes are held the first,
third, and fifth Mondays of each month at Viking Hall. These classes
are taught by Ellen Moilanen. She is a member of the Nordahl Grieg Leikarrang, a Norwegian folkdance
group that is widely respected in our area as well as in Norway.
At each class, beginners are integrated into the dances so all levels
of dancers are able to participate in the same class.
Folk dancers from the Cultural Center also participate in many of the programs and celebrations
in Santa Cruz dressed in their Norwegian costumes, called bunads. Folk
dance classes are sponsored in Viking Hall for all levels of dancers.
Folk music is an integral part of our cultural experience ---
encompassing singers, actors and musicians who have play the horn, nykleharp, saxophone,
accordions and fiddles.
