We are a group of Scandinavian Americans working to promote and preserve
Scandinavian heritage in our families as well as helping to promote
awareness of the rich culture of the Nordic countries to people of other
ethnic heritage.
The Scandinavian Cultural Center of Santa Cruz is one of the newest
of Scandinavian heritage centers in the United States. We are a non-profit
educational organization which focuses on culture of the five Nordic
countries.
We have a lending library containing many items of cultural interest,
and we also host a variety of classes for folk
dance (held 2-3 times a month), and folk-art classes such as Rosemaling
classes, which are held twice a year.
We own Viking Hall as a meeting place, and a farmhouse built in 1878.
We hope to connect the two buildings in the near future to form a museum,
library, gallery, meeting hall complex along with a kaffe house.
Our History
This Cultural Center was incorporated in June, 1994, as a nonprofit
educational corporation to encourage Scandinavian cultural interests
and support Scandinavian groups.
